David Corbett is a homeschooling senior who is passionate about music. His primary musical focus is composition and he studies with David Conte, Department Chair of Composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM), through the SFCM Pre-College Program. His composition for piano trio “Scherzo” won the Kris Getz Award at the SFCM in 2017 and was performed at the Pre-College Division Commencement Ceremony. In 2018, his compositions have included “Two Pieces for String Quartet” and a setting of Emily Dickinson’s poem “Wild Nights” for soprano and piano. He is currently working on a piano trio.

In addition to composition, David also studies violin and piano. He has played the violin for 10 years and studies with William Barbini. He played violin in the Sacramento Youth Symphony for 6 years and was concertmaster of the Academic Orchestra for the 2015-16 season. Since 2016, David has studied piano with I-Hui Chen in Davis.

David will graduate from high school in June 2019 and is applying to conservatories for a Bachelor of Music degree in composition.
